impeachment of Andrew johnson
President Andrew Johnson was impeached on February 24, 1868. He was put on trail on March 2nd 1868. Congress thought he sided too strongly with the South on some issues. He was a democrat, and congress was all republicans who wanted to punish the South. Johnson was a little too nice to the South for congress to want to keep him in office. All of the laws Johnson vetoed, congress just overrode. He continued his presidency, but didn't run for a 2nd term.
